Moving Instructions for Residential Tenants

We know moving day can be a little crazy. From our experience, we have found most moves go along without a hitch, as long as the tenant and building manager remain in contact throughout the move. Here are some helpful tips and information:

Welcome and thank you for choosing to live in a building managed by Porte Realty Ltd. Be assured that every effort is made by our building managers to ensure your suite is ready for you and we hope you enjoy living in your new home.

To help reduce the stress of moving into your new home, here are some simple tips to make moving day more manageable:

• Call the Building Manager and arrange a time for moving into your new home. Incoming tenants are given a time slot in which to move in their belongings. As there may be other moves happening on the same day, and particularly if the elevator is required, it is important to keep on schedule.

• Make reservations well in advance if you plan to rent a moving truck or hire a professional mover.

• If circumstances are such that you are able to move on any day other than the last day of the month, so much the better. Your move will probably cost less and you won’t be competing for moving times.

• Keep in mind that there is often a lag time in getting new service for cable, internet, telephone and hydro. Therefore, the sooner you notify your service provider of your planned move the better.

• Pack a bag the day before you move with everything you will need for the first 24 hours in your new home. Include clothes, towels, toiletries and a small first aid kit containing Band-Aids.

• Should you require service in your suite, please complete the Request for Service forms included in your Welcome Home folder and submit it to your building manager.

One month prior to the move…

Make reservations with your moving company or rental truck company

Purchase moving boxes or start collecting boxes from various outlets. You will be surprised at how many of the outlets will be completely out of boxes at month end.

Start packing small items such as dishes and ornaments

Advise your telephone, cable, internet and hydro provider to disconnect services

Provide your forwarding address to the post office and building manager

Advise the building manager if you are having problems coordinating your move

Arrangements may be made with the building manager to have your suite cleaned, if you feel you simply will not have the time to clean your suite as required. The relative costs will be deducted from your security deposit.
